Intimates

Intimates

I laugh to myself, but I’m
laughing with you,
you with the sensual lips
that form a small mouth,
the insides of which
I can fathom.
Because we’re the same being,
the same non-being that
no one could’ve predicted
would be, until
we were,
and now here we are!
our eyebrows similar
half-moons,
our eyes downcast
away from the camera,
to keep ourselves
in—
the same reason we wear clothing,
or keep quiet
with a stranger, failing
to recognize our
selves in that face.
