Al Fresco Cafe Poems #26

AL FRESCO CAFÉ POEMS # 26

Our Republics or our Politics
Are
In a mythic sense, interchangeable,
Both
Based on fictions,

Fictions from different perspectives,
From different affections
And different afflictions.

Just as are our responses
To couples in box-shaped cars
Where no barrier is between
To interfere with closeness,
Body against body,
As they listen to sounds
Made by clicking glasses together.

What is observed,
What is happening
Both outwardly and inwardly
Is known to no one,
Not the peeping tom
Hiding between
The public park oak,
Or the couple peeping
At themselves in a rear view mirror.
