Sea Me Safe

Painting by Dwight Baird

Sea Me Safe

dressing
Below a thin skinned dawn,
Where clouds were second-guessing
Shadows on the lawn.

Behind me, my tangled sleep
Tightened by degrees.
Ocean days do not come cheap
For stylised amputees.

Fear of fun swallowed whole,
Within the artist's brush.
Nocturnal colours of my soul
Assuaged in oily hush.
