Strings

When the busker
with a cello

played with such
emotional intensity
                                     my hard shell,
                                     my anger,
                                     my sarcasm,
                                     my suspicions,
                                     my fears & sadness
all but melted.

                          Who needs a harp when
a cello finds the notes that
                          flood my face with tears?

Indeed. I am going out later to go climb my favorite tree and serenade the birds and trees with my violin. I am their private busker and I like to think I make them smile. This certainly did!

I love the sound of a cello... no harping needed in the face of a cello's voice... Great take on a 44 words.

Dearly drawn to music poems. They are melodic in word and intent. Great work, Glenn!

The power of music, how it can melt us to tears, happiness and gladness ~

I haven't seen yet a busker with a cello - that must be a joy to listen to ~

Thanks for joining us Glenn ~

A cello can certainly strum those heart strings, melting away the accumulated ice. I don't think I've ever read a short poem from you, nicely done!

I LOVE the idea of a cello "finding notes."

I love the cello too and the lines "Who needs a harp when a cello finds the notes that flood my face with tears?" Perfect. Each musical instrument has such different effects on our psyches.

Oh yes, a cello can melt my heart too. Think I'll put on some Yo-Yo Ma

Just gorgeous. I like your mode for melting.

Love that last line! I will always stop to listen to a cello - not many about in Norwich.

Music makes me melt for sure! I would love to hear you play!

My oldest son ended up playing an upright bass (and now bass guitar, of course, as well as many other instruments) but I have a small 1/8 cello my 8 year old son will start taking lessons on this year. He is left handed so it will be a challenge, but I LOVE the cellos and I insist one of my children learn - the girls refused - but my last child has NO choice. They are all musical, sing - and my youngest is a "mamma's boy" so I think he will indulge me. ;) Lovely poem - enjoy the reading.

I can relate to a heart melted by a cello playing.

Beautiful, Glenn, and I agree with you about the cello.

True enough, Glenn. It's a haunting sound.
